Makeup Companies Look to Combat Climate Change
As with many products on the market, dozens of makeup companies are now looking into eco-friendly makeup. Eco-conscious manufacturers know many customers are looking for a way to lower their carbon footprint. Climate change is revealing the extent of our negative impact on our environment as we search for sustainable changes.
While there is no concise definition of “eco-friendly,” generally companies use it to mean mitigating negative environmental impacts. Manufacturers make eco-friendly makeup from sustainable sourced organic ingredients, and are naturally biodegradable. Manufacturers use eco-packaging, and sometimes even in a refillable container.
All eco-friendly products are cruelty-free, and the maker doesn’t test the products on animals. This month, we’re blogging about eco-friendly makeup.
Makeup Can Have a Lasting Effect on the Environment
Makeup may not be at the top of your list of environmental impacts, but it does play a role. Just in the production, packaging, and distribution, the manufacturer makes many eco-friendly changes. Also, have you thought of the effect of makeup once you wash it off, and it runs down the drain?
While many makeup companies have banned animal testing, tons of animal-based products are still in use. These include:
- Honey
- Beeswax
- Lanolin (wool grease)
- Squalene (shark liver oil)
- Carmine (crushed-up beetles)
- Gelatin (cow or pig bones, tendons or ligaments)
- Allantoin (cow urine)
- Ambergris (whale vomit)
- Placenta (sheep organs)
